Bay Area Wedding Venue Spotlight :: Atwood Ranch

You know I love a well-run ranch! The space at Atwood Ranch is amazing. All events here are designed by Julie Atwood Events. The rolling vineyards, the lofty barn, gorgeous horses and the Sonoma landscapes make this an ideal wedding venue. Atwood Ranch has a rustic appeal and can be styled however you like. In this blog, we're sharing Erin and John's wedding and you'll see that Julie Atwood definitely knows how to glam up a barn!

Jennie & David :: Love in Sonoma

How did I not yet blog this wedding?! Jennie and David's awesome wedding definitely needs to be shared with you! The bride and groom are so much fun. They were totally game for all kinds of photo sessions which makes my "job" super fun and easy. (Photography is my art and my passion so I don't really consider it a job but you understand what I mean here.) The decor was 1920's inspired, there were a lot of DIY details and even the photo booth was custom-made by the bride and her family for this occassion. Check it out!

Catey & Paul :: Landmark Wedding in Sonoma

Catey and Paul were married at Landmark Vineyards in the heart of Sonoma, California. Their wedding day combined their shared passions of food, wine and entertaining into one celebration. Catey graciously composed a narrative for us to share with you about the planning and inspiration for the wedding. It's a great added bonus because you can read about the details and see the results... all in the same blog post! Thanks, Catey!

From the Bride:

When Paul proposed a few days before Christmas with a ring featuring my Grandmother’s engagement diamond, I knew instantly when the wedding should be: August 24th – the same day my grandparents got married 73 years ago. Lucky for us, it fell on a Saturday. Since we had less than a year to plan, I got right to work on the details.

We decided early on that we wanted a small wedding surrounded by close friends and family. Next up – the location. With a small wedding, we discovered that you have a lot more options when it came to venues. A few years ago, Paul and I took our first vacation to Sonoma, CA and instantly fell in love with the area. Our life is spent in the kitchen: cooking, entertaining, and of course enjoying wine. Between the downtown square, vineyards and restaurants, it brought together some of our favorite things and made it the ultimate wedding destination. After scouting out a few locations, we decided to have the ceremony and reception at Landmark Vineyards, where we could have the entire evening spent outside under draped Italian lights surrounded by the picturesque mountain views.

The ceremony was short and sweet and took place on the lawn overlooking the vineyard. For the reception we envisioned a fabulous backyard dinner party, complete with delicious food, stunning wine and some jazzy, dinner party music to cap off the night. Of course it was going to be something a bit more elaborate than what we could pull off alone, so we found some local experts to help our dreams become a reality.

Claire, from Poppy Stone Designs, to execute my vision for the flowers for the tables, bouquets and boutonnieres. I knew I wanted local, fresh flowers in various containers, boxes, and vases featuring my colors for the wedding: pink, white & green. She even incorporated our love for food by adding sprigs of rosemary and a few apples to the arrangements. It was better than I could have ever imagined.

The food was catered by our favorite restaurant in Sonoma- The Girl & the Fig. They also did our welcome dinner, by closing The Fig Cafe to the public and welcoming all 40 guests for small bites, individual pizzas and of course, more wine. For the reception, each course was handpicked by us and paired with corresponding Landmark Wines.

All in all, the night was perfection. The evening was beautifully captured by our amazing photographer, Tara Arrowood. Every time I look through the pictures it takes me back to the best day of my life.

Nicki & David Pogue :: Wedding Portraits

As you might have read in my previous blog entry, Nicki and David's wedding was very family-centric. Their love for their family and intimate friends is heartwarming. Since the wedding was so focused on the uniting of two families, I wanted to show more family photos in the blog entry about the wedding. But, there were so many incredible shots of just Nicki and David that I decided to post a little blog dedicated specifically to the bride and groom. Nicki and David, this one's for you!

Nicki & David Pogue's Wedding :: Uniting Two Families as One

This blog entry is dedicated to Nicki and David Pogue who were married at Beltane Ranch earlier this year. Nicki and David are incredible people. Their wedding was a very sweet and humble event focused on celebrating with their children, family and closest friends. It was a beautiful small wedding that was extremely family-focused rather than being bride and groom centric. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and joyful, with lawn games, lounge seating and a photo booth.

Fun stuff that happened throughout the day:

  • During the ceremony, Nicki misplaced her vows and all the guests joined in the hunt to find them.
  • David began speaking his vows and then stopped, saying he couldn’t do it. Next thing you know, he breaks into a dedication song he wrote specifically for his new bride. He planted musicians all around the ceremony to join in. (One was even dressed as a Beltane Ranch employee!) David has a flare for dramatics- you should check out his surprise proposal to Nicki which he produced as a film!
  • Nicki and David’s children passed out butterflies to all the guests for a group butterfly release during the ceremony.
  • It was a windy day at the ranch which worried the bride and groom that the unity candle lighting ceremony would not bode well. Right before the ceremony began, the wind completely stopped! The lighting of the candles uniting the two families went off without a hitch. Meant to be? I think so!

Nicki and David made all the right decisions when planning this wedding. The team of vendors they chose were absolutely perfect for their style and vision. Every detailed element was well-executed. Nothing was over done; every single detail in the wedding represented the couple and their family. From food and flowers to serving the best beer in the world, Nicki and David did everything right! (Not kidding about the best beer in the world. Check out this article). Congratulations to Nicki and David and your beautiful family. Wishing you all the happiness in the world! Thank you for letting us be a part of your wedding day.
